Interview with Gianni Sprea

When did you start collaborating with Farina?
My collaboration with Farina began in 1993, it’s been almost 24 years.

Which company do you work for?
I work with several companies. Among these "Timber Processing" in Tolmezzo (Udine) - a leader company in the Italian market - which at the moment is responsible for providing the wooden boxes for Farina.

How are the products realized?
The first step of the production is the delivery of the wood at the company - from Sweden, Russia and Poland - followed by its processing that include: sanding, cutting to size, sterilization and silk-screen printing (fire printing). At the end of these processes, the case is assembled and finally finished according to the customer’s requirements.

Do you personally produce them or do you only deal with their marketing?
I play a role closely linked to the sale.

What is the relationship with Farina as a company?
The relationship between me, Elena and Claudio is undoubtedly a strong friendship built over 25 years in the business.

What does it mean to be a supplier of a winery? Do you only supply wineries?
Over the past 15 years, the wine market has evolved and changed significantly and with it also the packaging industry, becoming more and more a tool to promote the brand, quality, elegance and finesse. I deal with various types of packaging: cardboard boxes, wooden cases, flexible and rigid films. Thanks to this wide range of materials, I have a diversified clientele: wine cellars, delicatessens, food, mechanical, textile companies, etc.

How do you approach manufacturers to convince them to buy your product?
I always listen to the needs of the customer, acting as with professionalism and finding the right solution for the needs of both.
How would you describe the company Farina?
Farina is very attentive to the quality of the products they are looking for or have commissioned, this makes them, without doubt, a demanding company.

You have witnessed the evolution between the old and the new generation, what can you say about it?
I had the pleasure to meet Remo Farina in 1993, I was 25 and I was at the beginning of my business and there was an immediate feeling between us. Remo (I like to remember him this way) was very demanding, critical but constructive, extremely cooperative. A phone call was enough to understand each other’s need, he was generous in giving advices that I still find helpful in my job, as well as being open-minded towards the future. After Remo passed away I got to know Elena and Claudio. I must say they have an excellent reputation. Elena and Claudio have rolled up their sleeves firmly and with temperament, they led the company tilll now with excellent results and have greatly improved their positioning on the international markets.
